What is Vibing? Or why we need a peer-reviewed journal at the intersection of AI *and* Media

By Jacob Groshek

It is with great excitement that we announce the launch of VIBING: AIxMedia Research, the official academic research journal of the AIxMedia Institute. Our goal is to turn ideas into peer-reviewed research within days, not months or years.

VIBING is dedicated to advancing scholarship at the intersection of artificial intelligence and media, a rapidly evolving space where technology and communication continuously reshape one another. As an open access journal with modest article processing fees of just $475 per article (due only after blinded, hybrid review with AI and human decision making), our mission is not only to publish high-quality research but also to ensure that knowledge is widely accessible, fostering global dialogue across disciplines in a timely and meaningful fashion.

A distinctive feature of VIBING is our commitment to rigorous, AI-facilitated peer review. By integrating artificial intelligence into the review process with human knowledge and sensibilities, we are able to provide authors with thoughtful, timely, and constructive feedback—ensuring both the integrity of the research we publish and the rapid dissemination of new insights.

We also believe that publication is only the beginning of a research paper’s journey. To amplify the impact of your work, VIBING offers dedicated support and resources for visibility and outreach, helping authors engage both academic peers and broader audiences who are eager to understand how AI is transforming media, for example with our innovative podcasting partnership.

Whether you are exploring theoretical foundations, empirical studies, applied technologies, or critical perspectives, we invite you to contribute to VIBING. Together, we can shape the conversation around artificial intelligence and media, and ensure that this important body of work reaches those who can carry it forward. VIBING is NOT about navel gazing, but rather to examine and exemplify the process of “vibe coding” that nearly all of us take where we interact with the digital to produce innovation that is greater than the sum of its parts.

We look forward to your submissions and to building this vibrant research community with you. Whereas much of academia and the research enterprise is running from AI contributions, we are leaning into the future. Join us.
